There’s no one quite so judged as the Imperfect Mother. The “unnatural” mom, absent mom or ambivalent mom is still an unsettling figure who makes many instinctively uncomfortable. But a wave of recent film and TV depictions are trying to understand why some mother figures might feel overwhelmed, alienated or unsuited to the role.
