Desperate Housewives’ Edie Britt was created as a foil to the four main characters - someone whose key role was to rile them up. And, at the time, she riled audiences, too. But when we watch her more than 20 years later, Edie looks a little different.
Back when Desperate Housewives debuted in 2004, Edie was pitched as an easy woman, and audiences – and the other characters – were encouraged to hate her for nothing more than her sexual appetite. And what’s more, Edie was… kind of a badass, if we’re being honest! The other Housewives hated her attitude – but over two decades later, we kind of rate it. Edie never felt like she owed anyone anything, and we’re all about that. So… was Edie Britt the secret hero of Desperate Housewives? Here’s our Take.
