Little Voice
Laura Hoff (Jane Horrocks), known as Little Voice or LV due to her tendency to not talk, lives with her overbearing mother Mari Hoff (Brenda Blethyn) in their dilapidated house in Scarborough, where she spend most of her time alone, mimicking the voices of famous singers such as Marilyn Monroe, Shirley Bassey, and Ethel Mirman. The only person who seems to understand her is Billy (Ewan McGregor), the young man who is sent by the phone company to install a phone in the Hoff’s house. When Mari’s boyfriend Ray Say (Michael Caine) hears LV singing as Judy Garland, he sets up a gig at the nightclub of Mr. Boo (Jim Broadbent) against LV’s wishes, thinking if she is heard they’ll all be rich. Now the only trick will be getting Little Voice to perform in front of people.
