Will there be a Ted Lasson Season 4, or is Season 3 the final season?
Ted Lasso is a popular comedy series on Apple TV+ about an American football coach, Ted Lasso (played by Jason Sudeikis), who is hired to coach a struggling English football team, despite having no knowledge of soccer. The uplifting show has garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase since its release in 2020.
As of now, there has been no official announcement from Apple TV+ or the creators of the show regarding whether season 3 will be the last season of Ted Lasso. However, there are a few factors that suggest season 3 could be the final season.
Firstly, the show’s creators, Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, and Bill Lawrence, and star Jason Sudeikis have spoken about Season 3 as wrapping up the characters’ story arcs. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hunt stated, “We’re hoping to tell a complete story, and I think that’s what we have in mind as far as formulating the arc of where we’re going.” This suggests that the show’s creators had a limited plan for the show from the beginning and may have a set endpoint in mind for their story.
Secondly, the contracts of some of the show’s main cast members are set to expire after season 3. For instance, Jason Sudeikis’s contract is set to end after season 3, and it’s unclear if he’ll continue with the show if it’s renewed for another season. This may suggest that the creators are planning a definitive conclusion to the series, and that the end of season 3 will wrap up the storylines effectively.
On the other hand, there are several reasons why the show could continue beyond season 3. Firstly, Ted Lasso has been a massive success for Apple TV+, both in terms of critical acclaim and viewership. It’s plausible that the network will want to continue the show for as long as possible, as long as the creators have new stories to tell and are enthusiastic about moving forward. The show’s creator, Bill Lawrence, spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the possibility of the show continuing beyond season 3 in September 2021, stating “We think it’s probably three, but you know, we’re not sure. I think one of the main things with being confident enough to know ‘this is where we’re taking Ted’ is thinking, ‘Oh, we don’t need to just keep every door open for as long as possible.’”
Sudeikis has also spoken positively about the potential for spin-offs that feature some of the characters.
Fans will have to wait and see if season 3 is the last we see of Ted Lasso, or if there’s more to come from the beloved coach and his team.
