Why Does “Louie” Have so Many Continuity Inconsistencies?
Though the show does maintain certain elements from episode-to-episode, Louie C. K. has made it clear that he’s not dedicated to continuity and more than willing to break from television conventions in order to experiment with new ideas. Even basic facts about Louie’s life - like details about his wife, how many siblings he has and his mother’s personality - will change from one episode to another. As he’s told numerous interviewers, “The show needs to keep going, so I’m introducing new elements each year.” So while there are some ideas and stories that are developed over multiple episodes, there are also numerous single episodes that are written with little regard for past episodes.
