Is Jon Snow Dead, According to the “Game of Thrones” Season 6 Trailer?

We are mere weeks away from the Season 6 premiere of HBO’s Game of Thrones, and the internet has been simply tearing apart every trailer, teaser, and photo that is given to us. Although we’ve been able to decode a lot, there’s still one question that remains a complete mystery. Is Jon Snow dead!? Some signs point to yes, but honestly? I don’t believe he is.

We saw three, very short clips of Jon Snow in the Season 6 trailer. The first was the opening of the trailer, a still of what apparently is his corpse, with Ser Davos saying, “He’s gone.”

The second time is in the middle of the trailer, when someone’s hands (we aren’t sure whose they are), cover Jon’s eyes.

And the third and final time he makes an appearance is at the end of the trailer, though not as the main character in focus.

Davos picks up Longclaw and draws the sword. His intention is unclear. A current popular theory is that Ghost and Davos are guarding Jon’s body, as they need it unharmed for resurrecting him.

There are many theories on how Jon could come back, ranging from warging into Ghost to becoming a White Walker. But the most popular theory is that Melisandre will resurrect Jon. It makes sense, as she’s already at Castle Black, and really has no other reason to stay there now that Stannis is gone. Perhaps Jon Snow is the real Azor Ahai reborn again?

The fact of the matter is there are so many unanswered questions about Jon Snow and not just about his death. And why would the writers put so much attention on a character that’s never coming back? Jon Snow has been at the centre of the photos, has made appearances in the trailers, and has been featured in many marketing promos. Why would they do this, for a character who is never returning? Why would there be flashbacks this season, regarding Ned Stark and the Targaryens, which is supposedly in regards to his parentage if Jon had no more part in the series? Many fans are positive that this season we’ll be receiving confirmation about who Jon’s parents really are, or in other words, R+L=J. For any of you who haven’t heard this theory, it’s the idea that Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark (Ned’s late sister) are Jon’s parents.

Kit Harington, who plays (or possibly played) Jon Snow, said in an interview last month, “Look, I’m not in the show anymore.” But, directly following this statement, he said, “I’m definitely not in the new series.” So maybe Kit is telling the truth. Maybe in Season 6, he will only be appearing as a corpse. Maybe his resurrection isn’t happening until the following season! Could Season 6 end with Jon Snow being resurrected, as Season 5 ended with his death?

Could it be? It wouldn’t be entirely out of the question, as there were set pictures leaked of Kit Harington in Stark battle armor.

While the particulars of how or when he is coming back remain a mystery, I think one thing is for certain. We have not seen the last of Jon Snow.
