While True Detective will retain the same name for the second installment, many other details will be different.

Series creator and lead writer Nic Pizzolatto will be on board for production, again responsible for writing all the episodes. Cary Fukunaga, who produced artfully directed all the episodes of the first True Detective to Primetime Emmy Nomination acclaim, will return as a producer but will not be directing. Directorial work will be handled by multiple directors, including Jeremy Lin (of The Fast and the Furious series) directing the first two episodes. Danish director Janus Metz Pedersen is also reportedly on board.

None of the first season’s cast will be returning. The second season includes Colin Farrell (Alexander, Hart’s War), Vince Vaughn (Swingers, Dodgeball), Rachel McAdams (Mean Girls, Midnight in Paris), and Taylor Kitsch (John Carter, Friday Night Lights) in the lead roles. Supporting/recurring roles include Afemo Omilami (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Michael Irby (Law Abiding Citizen), Lolita Davidovich (Gods and Monsters), James Frain (True Blood), Michael Hyatt (The Wire), Abigail Spencer (Cowboys & Aliens), Jon Lindstrom (Castle), Yara Martinez (Jane the Virgin), Chris Kerson (30 Rock), and C.S. Lee (Dexter).

The setting has been shifted to California and the season will again be comprised of eight episodes. Season two’s tagline has been revealed as “We get the world we deserve.” For reference, season one was “Touch darkness, and darkness touches you back.”
