Nymphomaniac

Self-diagnosed nymphomaniac Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg) spins a tale of her erotic past to a stranger, the elderly bachelor Seligman (Stellan Skarsgård) who found her badly beaten and took her into his home. Over tea at Seligman's home, Joe recounts the story of her excessively sexually promiscuous life.

The film was originally supposed to be only one complete entry; but, because of its four-hour length (5 1/2 hours in the director's uncut version), von Trier made the decision to split the project into two separate films - Volumes 1 and 2.
